Mirrors and clocks: prettify your walls!

Mirrors
I have always adored mirrors, they reflect the light and are like jewellery for the walls. In fact, I think every room should have at least one...I hope it is not a sign of vanity!
Anyway, here is a selection of unusual and beautiful pieces that I spotted at Maison & Objet in Paris:

Clocks
Again, clocks can become artwork on the wall and make a real statement
Diamantini & Domeniconi are behind the famous Cucu clock seen in every design shop but they have also created these really cool knitted clocks:

One for the children: the Uomino wall clock

And finally, whilst not a mirror or a clock, these diacasan rugs are almost too beautiful to walk on and can definitely be fabulous wall accessories too!

Ploum Ligne Roset sofa designed by the Bouroullec Brothers

Yes, more Ligne Roset products...Ligne Roset unveiled their 2012 collection including the new Ploum sofa designed by Ronan and Erwann Bouroullec at Maison & Objet in Paris.  So sexy that it deserves its own post.

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec design for numerous manufacturers: Vitra, Kvadrat, Magis, Kartell, Established and Sons, Ligne Roset, Axor, Alessi, Issey Miyake and Cappellini to name a few.

Several exhibitions have been devoted to their work. Two exhibitions are scheduled for 2011: "album" at the architecture center arc en rêve in Bordeaux (January 27th to March 27) and a major monographic exhibition at the Centre Pompidou Metz, in the fall.
I know where I will be going when I am in france in two weeks' time!

And for my French friends: Deux expositions consacrees aux Freres Bouroullec sont attendues en 2011: "album" au centre d'architecture arc en rêve à Bordeaux (27 janvier au 27 mars, 2011) et une grande rétrospective au Centre Pompidou Metz, à l'automne.

Difficult to choose between these tree colours, my favourite might be the red one - what's yours?

Sofas & armchairs (in the mood for spring!)

I still have so many incredible products that I want to write about from M&O but this week is flying by and I just have time for a quick mood enhancer post (still keeping the theme of French design though). I think it must be the need for light, warms and a blue sky and sunwhich attracts me blue and yellow at the moment! I have spotted this little blue number at Ligne Roset designed by Eric Jourdan - a great combination of classic lines with a contemporary twist. Apparently Eric Jourdan designed the sofa as a tribute to England "Where the most flamboyant of modernity and tradition meet (bowler hat and dreadlocks)". That's is probably why I like it, I share his views!

Maison & Objet Paris 2011

Maison & Objet is one of the leading European interior design events, covering everything from furniture, home furnishings, lighting, tableware and high end gifts. Going to the show was exhilarating but also overwhelming, just to give you an idea of scale: over 3000 exhibitors, 5 million products from 300,000 different brands. Needless to say attempting to see everything in one day was challenging (I am definitely planning an overnight stay for the next show!)

The above quote from Coco Chanel sums up the essence of the event "La mode se demode, le syle jamais" ("Trends go out of fashion, style never does"). Fashion and Interiors have in common that there is no right or wrong, it is subjective and a way to express one's personality.

The event was a fantastic source of inspiration, an incredible juxtaposition of ultra modern and more traditional design. Mix eclectic, unusual objects and interiors with an enormous amount of creativity and ingenuity and you have M&O.

I decided to include my favourites "finds" by categories, so here is part 1: lighting

Lighting

Pendant/Ceiling lights
Lighting was all about creating a focal point with clusters of ceiling lights, preferably off-centered to add interest. From oriental to industrial, throught to retro, baroque or modern of , here is how to do it...

Missoni home

Hiyoshiya lamp shades

Hiyoshiya wall lights

Dialma Brown lights

Chalieres

Obviously some of these ceiling lights work amazingly as one too - here are more examples:
Forestier lustre Angelus, a classic now but still love it!

Eichholtz

Zoepritz - I love the pigs!

Petite friture: seems to float, starts turning around slowly with the slightest draft

That's it for me today, more on M&O this week: furniture, accessories, home furnishings, etc!
